TallTower guy wire tension

When the guys are left as specified in the Tower Installation Manual, the TallTower is actually stronger than if the guy wires were mechanically tensioned (by using a come-along, for example).

MECHANICAL TENSIONING DEVICES SHOULD NEVER BE USED TO ADJUST GUY WIRES!

The predominant failure mode of the tower is buckling of the tubes. This typically occurs during an icing and high wind event. Thorough engineering study has determined that, when an icing event occurs, it is better the guy wires are loose; the additional weight of the ice on tensioned wires will more likely cause premature tower tube buckling than low-tensioned guy wires. There should be visible slack in all guy wires.

This is normal.
