Efficacy of Acoustic Deterrence for Bat Occupancy of Highway Structures
Wind turbines are not the only structures requiring bat deterrence. Bridges provide an ideal roosting location for bats, which poses problems when infrastructure maintenance is needed. In the following white paper, ICF discusses the use of acoustic deterrence to minimize harm to roosting bats at bridges. The paper covers a series of studies performed by ICF biologists for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) using NRG Systems’ bat deterrent technology. The results suggest that acoustic deterrence is a valuable tool for reducing human and wildlife interactions, minimizing physical harm to roosting bat species, and expediting state departments of transportation routine bridge maintenance processes.
