Testing a Rain Gauge-Tipping Bucket

Tools Required:

Digital voltmeter (DVM)

  • Disconnect the Rain Gauge from the logger.
  • Set your Digital Volt Meter (DVM) to resistance.
  • Place leads across the two wires from Rain Gauge, and tip the bucket manually.
  • You should see the resistance change momentarily from infinite to short circuit (0 ohms) as the switch engages.

Note: The Rain Gauge uses a simple reed switch for the output.
