FAQs

Will my GSM iPack work with a data only" service plan or SIM card?"

NRG's original GSM-based iPacks (Item 3122 and 3123 manufactured prior to April 2006) could only use a service called Circuit Switched Data (CSD) to transfer data through a GSM network. This service is usually either included in the service plan or available for free upon request from the GSM cell provider.

CSD calls are usually billed like voice calls, so it may be more cost effective to have your Symphonie calls scheduled for nights and weekends depending upon your service plan.

Often, when a provider offers a "data only" plan, the plan allows only GPRS connections. The original GSM iPacks (Item 3122 and 3123 manufactured prior to April 2006) are not compatible with GPRS, and unfortunately they cannot be upgraded to GPRS.

Beginning late April 2006, NRG made available a newer GSM iPack called the GSM Worldwide (item 3860). This newer iPack has the ability to use both CSD and GPRS connections and can be deployed on any GSM network that offers CSD or GPRS around the globe.
