Configuration Options

The PV Reference Cell utilizes a solar cell to measure solar irradiance in the likeness of a PV module, making it a complimentary choice for monitoring operational PV systems alongside broadband thermopile radiometers. This sensor is built using a high-quality monocrystalline Si solar cell connected to a shunt and operates near the short-circuit point.

The PV Reference Cell features remarkable spectral sensitivity and a similar incident angle modifier to that of a PV module, enabling precise analysis of photovoltaic yields. To minimize the effect of temperature on the measuring signal, this sensor has an active temperature compensation via a temperature sensor laminated to the back surface of the solar cell.

In addition to the standard onboard temperature compensation of the irradiance signal, this sensor is available with or without cell temperature as a separate output and can be provided with a variety of cable lengths to accommodate different installation locations. All PV Reference Cell sensors are calibrated in artificial sunlight against a reference cell calibrated at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB, National Metrology Institute of Germany).
