Working in the global energy sector, RNRG has experienced firsthand the challenges of working in a sometimes volatile industry during a time of economic and legislative uncertainty.
I recently spoke at a business school class at The University of Vermont on the topic of employee relations. The students sat dutifully listening, but I’m not sure they really understood how critical a role “employee relations” plays in the workplace.

Hiring college students for the summer months has been particularly rewarding for us at NRG Systems. Every year, we look to hire the best and the brightest students who are seeking to gain hands-on experience and eager to learn about our industry.
Vermont, where I live and work, is one of the least diverse states in the United States. The percentage of the State's population that is non-Hispanic white just recently dropped to 94%, according to the 2010 US Census.
One might think that recruiting the best and the brightest during tough economic times would be an easy task – high unemployment means plenty of well-qualified people looking for meaningful work. In my experience, though, no matter what the economic climate, recruitment is challenging.
