Meteorological sensors, loggers, and towers accumulate static charge unless they are properly grounded. High winds, low humidity, and the height of the tower above ground increase the rate of charge accumulation. A properly installed grounding kit protects your sensors and loggers from electrostatic discharge (ESD) by bringing the tower and everything mounted on it to ground potential. The copper-clad lightning spike provides an umbrella of protection for sensors at the top of the tower. A solid copper ground cable attaches to the lightning spike and runs down the tower to the copper-clad ground rod driven into the earth at the tower's base.
