The NRG Symphonie iPack for GSM is an add-on, Internet communications, and continuous power supply module for the NRG SymphoniePLUS data logger. This product was designed for use at sites where GSM/GPRS Quadband cellular service is available. GSM iPacks ship with WindLinx™ wireless service.
Technology The iPack for GSM contains a rechargeable gel cell battery, recharging circuit, specialized cellular phone (capable of GPRS and CSD connections), modem and Internet processor which enables the NRG SymphoniePLUS data logger to connect to your Internet Service Provider (ISP) through a GSM cellular phone network and transfer data as an email attachment to any desired email address on the Internet. A solar PV panel is included to recharge the iPack battery.
Connection The NRG Symphonie iPack for GSM mates to the NRG SymphoniePLUS data logger by connecting to a DB25 port located on the back of the NRG SymphoniePLUS data logger. The iPack and data logger essentially "sandwich together" and are then secured to the Symphonie Shelter Box (Item #3159) via 4 long screws.
The battery recharging circuit is designed for use with an external 5-watt PV panel (included) which connects to terminals on the side of the iPack. This robust configuration keeps the internal gell cell battery continuously charged, assuring reliable data logging and transfer operations.
Antennae Each GSM iPack ships with an omnidirectional antenna appropriate for most sites where the cell tower is in the general area. For fringe cellular sites, if another antenna solution will need to be obtained, contact NRG. The user will need to work with the GSM provider to determine the frequency band used at the site, and appropriate antenna.
Accounts and Programming The NRG Symphonie iPack for GSM requires GPRS data service and an ISP account in order to function. GSM and ISP user accounts will need to be obtained from the provider of your choice, and the required settings for the accounts need to be programmed into the iPack before use.
Once configured, exciting new options for performing wind assessment studies are now available. For example, a SymphoniePLUS data logger in the USA can email wind measurement data to a location in Europe.
WindLinx Information: WindLinx is a worldwide service that streamlines account setup and overall management of data transfer from multiple sites.

Note: All NRG Symphonie iPacks are compatible with both Symphonie and SymphoniePLUS data loggers. Customers wishing to stay with existing wireless providers may continue to do so. See our FAQ for more information.
