NRG Systems Introduces Patent-Pending Class 1 Anemometer

Independently verified sensor to be offered at half the price of other Class 1 sensors

NRG Systems, manufacturer of measurement equipment for the global renewable energy industry, has announced the introduction of its patent-pending NRG Systems Class 1 anemometer. NRG Systems is the first company to obtain endorsement in the classification of an anemometer from Troels Pedersen of the DTU Wind Energy Department.

“The drive to reduce cost and uncertainty throughout the industry is leading more and more developers to require the use of class 1 anemometers in wind measurementNRG Class1_sm campaigns,” said Katherine McQuade, marketing manager for NRG Systems. “The NRG Systems Class 1 was designed in direct response to customers requesting a class 1 sensor at a competitive price point.”

The NRG Systems Class 1 is a ball-bearing version of the industry-leading NRG #40C anemometer. The new, patent-pending dual-shaft design protects the bearings from debris and common impact loads experienced in harsh climates, while supporting the same ease-of-installation and software compatibility customers have come to rely upon.

Based on the DTU ACCUWIND study, the NRG Systems Class 1 received a classification index of 1.01A with a standard uncertainty of approximately 0.06 m/s at 10 m/s. According to the IEC standard, a classification index of 1.7A (A for flat terrain; B for complex terrain) equates to a standard uncertainty of 0.1 m/s (1%) at 10 m/s.

“The NRG Systems Class 1 has undergone extensive field tests through the ACCUWIND study and onsite at NRG Systems,” continued McQuade, “reinforcing our confidence in both the reliability and repeatability of the data.”

With the addition of the NRG Systems Class 1 to its product line, NRG Systems now offers three choices of anemometers for use in various conditions and terrains: the standard NRG #40C, the WindSensor P2546A, and the NRG Systems Class 1. The NRG Systems Class 1 ships free via surface freight and is backed by NRG Systems’ technical support and two year warranty.
