Hinesburg, Vermont – As NRG Systems welcomes many of its top 60 suppliers to its first-ever Supplier Summit this week, the region will be able to see the immense ripple effect this manufacturer of wind measurement equipment has on the area’s economy. A dozen of this Hinesburg company’s top suppliers are located in Vermont, coming from communities including Williston, Hinesburg, Underhill, Rutland, Lyndonville, South Burlington, Poultney and Bristol. Eighty percent of the company’s spending goes to companies in the northeast region, while only 2% of its spending goes overseas.
“NRG Systems has always prided itself on developing long-lasting relationships with its suppliers,” said Jan Blittersdorf, CEO/president of NRG Systems. “We work closely with them during the ups and downs of the economy to keep that relationship strong.”
Britt Theismann, chief operating officer of the American Wind Energy Association, and Jan Blittersdorf, NRG Systems CEO/president are scheduled to speak at the Summit’s welcome session.
“Our goal is to share information with our key suppliers on where our industry is headed and brainstorm objectives with them on several business initiatives we have underway,” said John Kerr, NRG Systems manager of purchasing. “It’s exciting to be hosting so many of the suppliers with whom we work with on almost a daily basis.”
The two-day Supplier Summit gets underway on Thursday, June 3. Attendees will participate in brainstorming sessions on lean practices, quality initiatives and product/process improvement and tour the NRG Systems green manufacturing facilities. Lean Practices encompass a continuous improvement philosophy focused on delivering more value by reducing inefficiencies throughout the supply chain, is among the topics that will be covered at the Supplier Summit. NRG Systems has followed the principles of lean manufacturing since the mid-1980s.
“This summit is one way we can work directly with our key suppliers and talk through process issues and other initiatives to help ensure our mutual success,” said Blittersdorf.
Nearly 100 people, representing about 60 different companies, are expected to attend the Summit.
