Hinesburg, VT – NRG Systems, leading manufacturer of wind measurement equipment, has joined dozens of other wind energy companies to raise awareness of the role of wind power in fighting climate change. The Wind Power Works campaign, an initiative of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), calls for reductions in greenhouse gas emissions 25-40% below 1990 levels by 2020 and rapid deployment of wind energy to help meet this target.
“A major transformation in our energy supply is critical to fighting climate change,” said Barton Merle-Smith, director of marketing and sales for NRG Systems, “Wind power is the only clean, reliable and cost-effective energy source ready for rapid, global deployment. At NRG Systems, we see climate change as the issue of our time – that’s why we have joined this campaign to urge our leaders to take action now.”
In the lead-up to the Copenhagen climate talks this December, the campaign will engage global policy makers on the world’s energy supply and the need to remove obstacles to wind energy development.
On Global Wind Day, June 15, the campaign sent a message to world leaders that they can and must take bold action. It involved downloading a virtual wind turbine onto users’ desktops to show their support for wind energy and deep emissions cuts. The turbines demonstrate how many homes can be powered and how much CO2 can be saved through wind energy. The more wind turbines downloaded, the stronger the call to world leaders.
Steve Sawyer, Secretary General of the GWEC said, “We have the technology to transform the global energy system, and we can do so rapidly. That’s an important message for our leaders to hear so that they commit to making the cuts so desperately required, and we want it delivered in the strongest terms possible.”
The virtual wind turbine is still available for download. Click the image link above to join this global campaign.
