In 2007, worldwide wind energy capacity passed the 94,000 MW mark, representing a 31% increase over 2006. Germany remains the world's leader with 22,247 MW of total installed capacity. The United States is second with 16,818 MW. Spain, which generates 10% of its electricity from the wind, is third with 15,145 MW of installed capacity. India is fourth with 7,850 MW and China is fifth with 5,899 MW. France, Italy, the United Kingdom and Portugal continue to be growing markets for wind energy as well.
